Hypothetically speaking, let's say 500
acres of the most pristine land was available for free to community
minded people. And let's go even go further, let's say there was housing
available, and other necessary tools and infrastructure; do you think
"community" would be a "slam dunk"? And let's throw in the best conflict
resolution and consensus decision-making training, do you think
"community" would be a "slam dunk"? I think this is important question.
Because if the answer is no, then that means a primary presumption of
what is holding "community" back is false. It would mean that there is
something we haven't figured out, and that no amount of saying "if only
we had land and resources we would be able to do it" is going to make
any difference. I would say we should concentrate our energies on trying
to figure out what that "something" is that it's missing. I would
contribute all my resources to make that "something" happen but time is
running out, it's looking more and more like it's simply not going to
happen. What's going to happen is most likely not total annihilation as
so many love to fear, but rather almost as depressingly, a continuation
of what's been going on for thousands of years-possession, position and
exploitation leading to continuing environmental degradation and violent
conflicts. And it is the fault of all of us, in my opinion.
