Additional suggestions from Iuval

I am including these suggestions, unedited, as an example of the kind of discussions that can take place regarding the goals and the ethics the community would adopt and how the community would choose to word them.

While I might question a few things Iuval is saying, or how he is saying them, I generally endorse these ideas.

1. Working towards 2 hrs/day or less bread labor. This means that we take planning seriously, that we are willing to have a less varied basic diet than we normally have (less sugars, oils and meat), are willing to have simple shelters that do not take much time to build and maintain (e.g. as we have always said: no plumbing in residences), are willing to share resources like tools, cars, appliances, shower, cafeteria/community bldg and kitchen) and are willing to arrive at a concensus.

2. Working towards complete food self sufficiency for the basic diet

(meaning that all our nutritive needs are provided for with the basic diet). Individuals are free to purchase extra food with any income they generate, or to produce extra food on their own time, which they can barter with, sell, or consume themselves (e.g. animals for meat, eggs, dairy, honey, etc, or extra wheat for bread, herbs, etc) 3. A commitment to taking care of one's body and staying healthy. No physically damaging addictions, including smoking, alcohol, porn, and no illegal drugs which could damage the community vis a vis the outside world.

4. A commitment to sharing knowledge and skills cheerfully and working cooperatively on bread labor.

When the bread labor requirement is achieved (might take some time):

5. a commitment to spending at least 10 hours a week (average) on an individual passionate pursuit.

6. a commitment to spending at least 10 hours a week on a pursuit which either contributes to at least two other people in the community in a non-bread-labor way, or to the wider world. This could overlap with #4 above, so in that case you wouldn't need an additional 2 hours over personal time. But if I am passionate about theoretical physics research and noone else is and it isn't obviously helping the world, then I would also have a civic responsibility like teaching science or organizing folk dancing (and hope that at least 2 others are interested in those things). I suppose teaching a craft would also qualify.

7. A commitment to participate in cultural enrichment activities organized by others.

-Iuval
